Meeting of the President of the Hellenic Parliament with the President of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset)
The President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Constantine Tassoulas, met with the President of the Hellenic Parliament of Israel (Knesset), Mr. Mickey Levy, on the occasion of the Conference of Presidents of Parliament of the Council of Europe member states.
After their meeting, Mr. Tassoulas and Mr. Levy made the following statements:
C. Tassoulas: "It is with great pleasure and honor to welcome in Athens the President of the Knesset, for the Conference of Presidents of Parliament of the Council of Europe member states. Earlier today, Mr. Levy delivered an interesting speech, on his experience in managing the pandemic.
Greece and Israel are countries with strong historical and friendly ties. In the context of our close and constructive relations, we have signed an agreement on parliamentary cooperation with the Knesset and the House of Representatives of Cyprus. Recently our country, thanks to a beneficial agreement with Israel, managed to reinforce the Air Force Training Center in Kalamata and this proves once again that this relation of trust and cooperation is in favor of our national goals.
Therefore, I welcome the President of the Knesset and wish him good luck in the work he undertook three months ago. I am confident that during our term of office, the relations between our two parliaments will strengthen, contributing to the further improvement of the existing excellent ones among us".
M. Levy: "I want to thank the President of the Hellenic Parliament for his warm welcome. We really feel like close families because we, have no other families. Israel has signed bilateral agreements with Greece and the new Israeli government will certainly continue to implement them. Furthermore, there are many fields of cooperation between the two countries, related to technology, health, cyberspace and start-ups. Our two countries and our two peoples are alike and we share a lot. In the past, there was a large Jewish community in Greece, but even today, there are many Israelis who visit Greece, because we really like your country, greek hospitality, greek music, greek food. I wish Greece prosperity, all the best and a good cooperation among us".
